Stahlcar Vehicle Monitoring Range
Colour Touchscreen Gauges, Alarms and Trip Data While You Drive
The ScanGauge 3 is a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen vehicle monitor, digital gauge, trip computer and basic engine-code reader. It connects to the OBD2 port and can display up to nine live gauges at once across customisable pages.
It is designed for drivers who want temperatures, voltage, engine load, fuel use and other operating information visible all the time, with configurable visual and audible warnings for selected values.

ScanGauge 3 is powered from the vehicle and turns on and off automatically. The large display can be arranged into several favourites pages, allowing different layouts for daily driving, towing, fuel economy or fault monitoring.
Unlike a temporary scan tool, it is intended to remain mounted in the vehicle so the driver can see developing temperature or voltage problems before they become a warning light or roadside breakdown.
Best Suited For
ScanGauge 3 suits towing vehicles, 4WDs, turbo-diesels, motorhomes, fleet vehicles and drivers who want a clear modern display rather than fitting several separate aftermarket gauges. It is also useful in vehicles where the factory dashboard shows only a warning light or heavily damped temperature gauge.
Live Digital Gauges
Standard values depend on the data made available by the vehicle, but commonly include:
- Coolant temperature
- Intake-air temperature
- Engine RPM and vehicle speed
- Charging voltage
- Engine load and throttle position
- Manifold pressure and calculated boost
- Ignition timing
- Fuel-loop status
- Instant and average fuel economy
- Fuel used per hour
- Trip fuel cost and cost per kilometre
- Other standard OBD2 values transmitted by the vehicle
Automatic X-Gauge Scanning
X-Gauge allows supported vehicle-specific data to be displayed in addition to the standard OBD2 gauges. Depending on the vehicle, this may include transmission temperature, oil temperature, diesel particulate filter information, hybrid-battery values and other manufacturer data.
ScanGauge 3 can automatically scan for compatible X-Gauges, reducing the need to manually enter long command strings. Manual entry is still available when a supported command is not found automatically.
Transmission Temperature Is Vehicle-Specific
Transmission temperature is not available on every OBD2 vehicle. The exact model and transmission must have a supported X-Gauge or standard data value. Confirm availability before ordering if transmission temperature is the main feature required.
Custom Gauge Pages
Up to nine gauges can be displayed on one page, and several favourites pages can be created. Gauge size and position can be arranged to make the most important information easier to see at a glance.
For example, a towing page might place transmission temperature, coolant temperature, engine load and voltage in the largest positions. A fuel-economy page could instead show instant economy, average economy, fuel used and distance-to-empty information.
Visual and Audible Alarms
Upper or lower warning limits can be set for selected gauges. When a value passes the chosen limit, the ScanGauge can provide a visual warning and audible alert.
This can be useful for coolant or transmission temperature, low charging voltage, excessive boost or other values that the driver wants to monitor without continually watching the screen. Alarm availability and usefulness depend on the data supported by the vehicle.
Trip and Fuel Information
ScanGauge 3 includes multiple automatic trip computers for the current journey, daily use, previous driving and the current fuel tank. Tracked information can include distance, drive time, average and maximum speed, maximum temperature, maximum RPM, fuel used, fuel economy and fuel cost.
After the fuel-tank size is entered and the unit is calibrated during normal fill-ups, it can estimate fuel remaining and distance to empty. These are calculated values rather than a direct fuel-level reading, so correct setup and consistent calibration improve accuracy.
Engine-Code Functions
- Read stored generic engine and emissions fault codes
- View pending engine fault codes where supported
- Clear the check-engine light after repairs
- Check basic emissions-readiness information
Diagnostic Limits
ScanGauge 3 is a permanent vehicle monitor and trip computer with basic engine-code functions. It is not a workshop-level full-system scanner.
It does not provide universal ABS, airbag, transmission-module, body-control, service-reset, active-test or coding functions.
Touchscreen, Brightness and Updates
The 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen supports more than 16 million colours and can be adjusted to suit the vehicle interior. Brightness can be changed quickly, and metric units including kilometres, litres, Celsius and kPa are supported.
WiFi updating allows new ScanGauge software and supported X-Gauge improvements to be installed without sending the unit away. ScanGauge lists these updates as free, with no annual software subscription.
Mounting and Installation
The ScanGauge plugs into the vehicleβs OBD2 port and requires no connection to engine sensors or vehicle wiring. The included mounting arrangement allows the display to be positioned where it can be seen without blocking the road or interfering with vehicle controls.
Installation normally involves routing the detachable cable, selecting the vehicle and fuel settings, choosing the required gauges, setting any alarms and calibrating fuel use during normal fill-ups.
Vehicle Compatibility
Designed for most cars and light commercial vehicles using the standard OBD2 protocol, generally including petrol vehicles from approximately 1996 onward and many later diesels.
It is not intended for heavy trucks using J1939 or J1708 connections. Available standard gauges, X-Gauges and alarms depend on the data transmitted by the exact vehicle.
