Stahlcar App-Based Professional Range
Full-System Phone Diagnostics with CAN-FD, Active Tests and Coding
ThinkDiag 2 turns a compatible Android or iOS phone or tablet into a compact professional-style diagnostic platform. It can scan supported modules throughout the vehicle, display live data, run bi-directional component tests, perform common service procedures and access selected coding and adaptation functions.
The second-generation interface adds CAN-FD communication for supported newer vehicles and uses Bluetooth 5.0 for a faster wireless connection. One year of all-manufacturer advanced software is included.

1 YearAll-Makes Software
ThinkDiag 2 is much more capable than a generic Bluetooth OBD2 adapter. A generic dongle usually reads only standard engine and emissions data. ThinkDiag 2 uses manufacturer diagnostic software to communicate with supported ABS, airbag, transmission, body, steering, battery and other control modules.
The phone provides the screen, processing and internet connection, while the ThinkDiag 2 interface handles communication with the vehicle. This keeps the hardware small but means a compatible mobile device and the ThinkDiag app are required.
Best Suited For
ThinkDiag 2 suits capable DIY users, mobile mechanics and light workshops that want broad diagnostic capability without carrying a separate scan tablet. It is a good choice when active tests, newer CAN-FD vehicles and selected coding are required and the user is comfortable with an annual software subscription.
Full-System Diagnostics
Depending on the vehicle, accessible modules may include:
- Engine and emissions control
- Automatic or automated transmission
- ABS and electronic stability control
- SRS airbags and restraint systems
- Electronic parking brake
- Body control and central electronics
- Battery management and charging systems
- Steering and steering-angle modules
- Climate control and air conditioning
- Tyre-pressure monitoring
- Immobiliser and key-related systems where supported
- Lighting, doors, windows, seats, sunroof and other fitted modules
What You Can See During Diagnosis
ThinkDiag 2 can read current, stored and pending fault codes where supported, display ECU identification information, show freeze-frame data captured when a fault was logged and graph live sensor values.
Live data can be used to compare wheel speeds, coolant temperature, fuel trims, airflow, throttle position, battery voltage, pressure sensors, switch status and other values. Several data items can be viewed together, which helps identify a sensor that disagrees with the rest of the system.
The app can also create a vehicle health report. This is useful when checking a recently purchased vehicle, recording faults before repairs or showing a customer which modules contained codes.
Bi-Directional Active Tests
Active testing allows the app to send commands to a supported control module rather than only reading information from it. This is one of the main differences between ThinkDiag 2 and a basic code reader.
Depending on the vehicle, tests may include operating the radiator fan, fuel pump, injector, electronic throttle, A/C clutch, horn, exterior lights, door locks, windows, mirrors, sunroof, EVAP valve or other actuators.
For example, if a radiator fan does not run when commanded, the fault may be in the fan, relay, power supply or wiring. If the fan operates through the scan tool but not during normal vehicle operation, the problem may instead involve a temperature input, control logic or another module.
Active Test Coverage
Active tests are vehicle-specific. The presence of an actuator on the vehicle does not guarantee that the manufacturer software allows it to be commanded through this tool.
Service and Maintenance Functions
Supported procedures may include:
-
Oil Service Reset: Resets the maintenance reminder after an oil change.
-
Electronic Parking Brake: Retracts or resets supported rear brake actuators during pad replacement.
-
Battery Matching: Registers a replacement battery on vehicles that monitor battery age and capacity.
-
Steering-Angle Calibration: Relearns the straight-ahead position after alignment, steering or suspension work.
-
ABS Bleeding: Operates the ABS pump and valves during supported brake-bleeding procedures.
-
DPF Regeneration: Requests a supported diesel particulate filter regeneration when vehicle conditions allow.
-
Injector Coding: Enters replacement injector calibration codes where required.
-
Throttle Relearn: Relearns a supported electronic throttle after cleaning or replacement.
-
Gearbox Relearn: Resets or relearns selected transmission adaptations.
-
TPMS Reset: Carries out supported tyre-pressure system resets or relearns.
-
Air-Suspension Calibration: Calibrates selected ride-height systems.
-
EGR and Other Adaptations: Performs selected relearn procedures after repairs.
The app may display additional service categories, but each function works only where the exact vehicle and control module support it.
Selected ECU Coding and Adaptations
ThinkDiag 2 can access selected coding and configuration functions. Depending on the vehicle, these may include replacement-module matching, adaptive-data resets and customisation of supported convenience features such as lighting behaviour, automatic locking, windows, displays, seats or climate settings.
Coding Limits
ThinkDiag 2 is not a universal dealer programming tool. It cannot universally download manufacturer software, flash blank ECUs or perform every online security procedure. Coding depth varies greatly by vehicle.
CAN-FD Support
CAN-FD is a newer communication protocol used by selected later vehicles, particularly within newer General Motors platforms and an increasing number of other makes. The original ThinkDiag does not include this hardware.
CAN-FD support does not mean every function is available on every CAN-FD vehicle. It means the interface has the communication hardware required where Thinkcar provides compatible diagnostic software.
Software Subscription Costs
Included: One year of all-manufacturer advanced software.
All-manufacturer renewal after that: USD $99.95 for one year.
If the subscription is not renewed, the interface can still perform the ten standard generic OBD2 engine and emissions functions. Manufacturer-specific system scans, active tests, coding and service procedures require an active advanced package.
Price checked 23 July 2026. Thinkcar controls future app pricing.
Phone, App and Internet Requirements
A compatible Android or iOS phone or tablet is required. The ThinkDiag app must be installed and an account created before the manufacturer software can be activated.
An internet connection is needed for initial setup, software downloads, updates and some online functions. Once the required vehicle software is downloaded, many normal diagnostic functions can be used without continuous internet access, although this can vary by feature.
Because the mobile device supplies the screen and battery, app compatibility should be considered when changing phones or operating-system versions in the future.
Vehicle Compatibility
ThinkDiag 2 supports a wide range of European, Asian, American and other vehicle manufacturers. Coverage normally begins around the introduction of manufacturer electronic diagnostics and OBD2, but exact model-year support varies.
Before ordering, check the exact vehicle when a particular module, active test, coding function or reset is essential. Broad brand coverage does not mean identical functions across every model.

ThinkDiag 2 or Original ThinkDiag?
Choose ThinkDiag 2 for CAN-FD hardware, Bluetooth 5.0 and the stronger option for newer vehicles.
Choose the original ThinkDiag when CAN-FD is not required and the lower purchase price is more important. Choose a standalone scanner if you prefer no phone dependency or annual app subscription.
