Stahlcar App-Based Professional Range
Full-System Smartphone Diagnostics with Active Tests and Coding
The original ThinkDiag is a compact Bluetooth diagnostic interface that turns a compatible Android or iOS device into a multi-brand full-system scanner. It can access supported vehicle modules, graph live data, operate components through bi-directional tests, perform common resets and access selected coding or adaptation functions.
One year of all-manufacturer advanced software is included. After that, the user can renew all makes or purchase an individual manufacturer package, while standard generic OBD2 engine functions remain available without renewal.

ThinkDiag is not the same as a generic ELM327 Bluetooth reader. Generic adapters usually communicate only with the standard engine and emissions system. ThinkDiag uses manufacturer diagnostic software to communicate with supported ABS, airbag, transmission, body, battery and other modules.
The connected phone or tablet provides the screen, battery, internet connection and report sharing. This makes the interface highly portable, but the app and a compatible mobile device are essential parts of the system.
Best Suited For
The original ThinkDiag suits experienced DIY users, mobile mechanics and small workshops that want broad system access and active tests at a lower purchase price than ThinkDiag 2. It is most suitable for users who do not need CAN-FD communication for newer vehicles.
Full-System Diagnostics
Accessible modules depend on the exact vehicle, but may include:
- Engine and emissions control
- Automatic transmission
- ABS and stability control
- SRS airbags and restraint systems
- Body control and central electronics
- Electronic parking brake
- Battery management
- Steering and steering-angle systems
- Tyre-pressure monitoring
- Climate control
- Immobiliser and key systems where supported
- Lighting, doors, windows, mirrors, seats and other fitted modules
Fault Codes, Live Data and Reports
The app can read and clear manufacturer-specific fault codes, display module identification, show freeze-frame information and graph live values. This helps move diagnosis beyond simply reading a code description.
For example, live data may allow four wheel-speed sensors to be compared, fuel trims to be checked for an intake leak, battery voltage to be monitored during starting, or switch and actuator states to be confirmed while operating a system.
A full vehicle scan can be saved as a health report. Reports are useful for recording the vehicle before repair, checking whether codes return and sharing information with a customer or another technician.
Bi-Directional Active Tests
Active tests allow ThinkDiag to command supported components through the control module. This can help determine whether the component and its wiring can respond, rather than waiting for the vehicle to activate it by itself.
Depending on the vehicle, examples may include operating a radiator fan, fuel pump, injector, A/C clutch, horn, lights, door locks, windows, mirrors, sunroof, electronic throttle, EVAP valve or other actuators.
If a fuel pump runs when commanded but does not run during normal starting, the problem may involve a control input or module logic. If it does not run during the active test, power supply, wiring and the pump itself become stronger suspects.
Active Test Coverage
The list of available component tests changes by make, model, year and control unit. Active testing is not identical across every supported vehicle.
Service Functions Explained
-
Oil Reset: Resets the maintenance reminder after servicing.
-
Electronic Parking Brake: Opens or resets supported rear brake actuators for pad replacement.
-
Battery Registration: Records a replacement battery on vehicles that monitor battery age and type.
-
Steering-Angle Reset: Calibrates the steering-angle sensor after alignment or steering repairs.
-
ABS Bleeding: Runs the ABS pump and valves during supported brake-bleeding procedures.
-
DPF Regeneration: Requests a supported diesel particulate filter burn when required conditions are met.
-
Injector Coding: Enters injector calibration codes after replacement.
-
Throttle Relearn: Relearns electronic throttle position after cleaning, disconnection or replacement.
-
Transmission Relearn: Resets or relearns selected gearbox adaptation values.
-
TPMS and Other Resets: Carries out supported tyre-pressure, sunroof, lighting, air-level and related procedures.
The exact function list is determined by the selected manufacturer software and vehicle. A menu heading does not guarantee support on every model.
Selected Coding and Adaptation Functions
ThinkDiag supports selected coding, matching and adaptive-data functions. These can include setting up a replacement component, resetting learned values or changing supported convenience features such as lighting, windows, locking or display behaviour.
Coding Limits
ThinkDiag is not a universal dealer programming or ECU-flashing tool. It cannot perform every online procedure, download every module file or program every replacement ECU.
Software Subscription Costs
Included: One year of all-manufacturer advanced software.
Current renewal options:
- All-manufacturer advanced software: USD $79.95 for one year
- Individual manufacturer package: USD $39.95 per manufacturer for one year, where offered in the app
If advanced software is not renewed, the ten standard generic OBD2 engine and emissions functions remain available. Full-system scans, active tests, service functions and coding require an active manufacturer package.
Prices checked 23 July 2026. Thinkcar controls future app pricing and package availability.
Phone, App and Internet Requirements
A compatible Android or iOS device is required. The ThinkDiag app must be installed and an account created before the included software can be activated.
Internet access is required for activation, software downloads, updates and some online functions. Many normal diagnostic functions can operate after the required vehicle package has been downloaded, although this varies by software and feature.
The phone supplies the display and power for the user interface. Customers who prefer a self-contained tool with physical buttons or a built-in screen should choose a standalone handheld instead.
Vehicle Compatibility
ThinkDiag provides broad European, Asian and American manufacturer coverage. Exact support starts at different years for different manufacturers and systems.
Confirm the specific vehicle before ordering when a particular module, active test, reset or coding procedure is essential. This version does not include CAN-FD hardware.

Original ThinkDiag or ThinkDiag 2?
Choose the original ThinkDiag for lower-cost full-system app diagnostics, active tests and selected coding on supported vehicles that do not require CAN-FD.
Choose ThinkDiag 2 for newer CAN-FD vehicles and Bluetooth 5.0. Choose a standalone scanner if you want no phone dependency or ongoing manufacturer-software subscription.
