The Stahlcar MT1 is a compact hardwired 4G GPS tracker for motorcycles, boats, jet skis, trailers, caravans, cars and mobile equipment. It connects to a suitable 12V power supply and can be concealed more effectively than a plug-in OBD or accessory-socket tracker.
The tracking platform provides live location, route history, mileage records, geo-fence alerts, speed warnings and power-disconnection notifications through a compatible app or web browser.

The MT1 uses GPS satellites to calculate position and the mobile network to transmit that position to the tracking platform. A compatible data SIM, mobile coverage and a usable GPS signal are required for remote tracking.
An internal backup battery allows limited reporting after external power is removed. It is designed to report a power-loss event and continue temporarily, not to operate for long periods without a 12V supply.
Best Suited For
The MT1 suits motorcycles, trailers, boats and equipment where a concealed installation and reliable parked power matter more than easy removal. It is the strongest option in the Stahlcar tracker range for a permanent installation.
Live Location and Map View
The app and web platform show the latest position received from the tracker. When the asset is moving and mobile coverage is available, regular updates allow the journey to be followed on the map.
The displayed position includes a report time. If coverage is lost, the platform can continue showing the last known position until a newer report is received.
Route History and Mileage Records
The platform stores up to 180 days of movement history. Routes can be replayed to review where the vehicle or asset travelled, when it moved and where it stopped.
Daily, weekly and monthly mileage reports can assist with work records, equipment-use monitoring and service scheduling.
GPS mileage is calculated from reported movement and should not be treated as a certified replacement for an odometer, road-user charge records or formal business documentation without independent verification.

Alerts Depend on GPS, Mobile Coverage and the Platform
Notifications can be delayed if the tracker is underground, inside a metal building, outside mobile coverage or unable to reach the platform. It should not be treated as a guaranteed emergency-response or theft-recovery service.
Hardwired Power Connection
The MT1 connects to a suitable 12V positive supply and earth. A permanent battery supply normally allows tracking with the ignition off, while an ignition-switched supply limits normal parked tracking when the vehicle is off.
Use a suitable low-current fuse close to the power source. Protect the wiring from heat, sharp edges, steering movement, suspension travel and vibration.
On motorcycles and small batteries, the tracker’s standby current is low but still contributes to battery drain over long storage periods. Battery condition should be monitored on vehicles that sit unused.
Professional Installation Is Recommended
Incorrect wiring can damage the tracker, flatten the battery or create an electrical fault. Use a qualified installer if the correct fused supply, earth point or waterproof cable routing is not clear.
Choosing the Installation Location
The tracker should be concealed but still able to receive GPS and mobile signals. Plastic bodywork, seats and trim usually interfere less than metal panels or enclosed toolboxes.
Avoid placing the tracker inside a sealed metal compartment, directly beneath a large metal fuel tank or alongside high-current ignition components. Keep it away from exhaust heat, moving parts and areas that may remain submerged.
Mount the unit securely so vibration cannot damage the wiring. The labelled GPS side should be oriented toward the sky where practical.
Water Resistant Does Not Mean Suitable for Submersion
Use a sheltered location and route connectors so water cannot sit around them. Marine installations should keep the tracker above normal bilge water and away from direct high-pressure washing or continuous immersion.
SIM Card Requirements
A compatible 4G SIM card with mobile data is required and is not included. The SIM must be activated and able to use data on a supported New Zealand network.
Disable the SIM PIN before installation. The correct APN may need to be entered during setup if the tracker does not connect automatically.
Location tracking normally uses a small amount of data, but actual usage depends on movement, update frequency and platform settings.
SIM and Data Costs Are Separate
The mobile provider charges for the SIM and data plan separately from the tracking platform. If the SIM is cancelled, out of credit or cannot use data, the tracker will stop sending new positions.

Continued app and web tracking requires an active platform account, SIM and mobile-data service.
GPS and Mobile Coverage Limits
GPS accuracy is reduced in tunnels, underground car parks, workshops, shipping containers and other areas with a blocked view of the sky.
Mobile coverage is required to send new positions to the platform. The map will not update until the tracker reconnects.
The internal backup battery is intended for limited power-loss operation. It cannot provide long-term standalone tracking after the main battery is disconnected.
Initial Setup
- Activate a compatible 4G data SIM and disable its PIN.
- Insert the SIM into the MT1 in the correct orientation.
- Temporarily connect the tracker to a fused 12V supply in an open outdoor location.
- Create the tracking-platform account and add the device using its supplied identifier.
- Enter the mobile-network APN if automatic connection does not occur.
- Wait for the first GPS position and confirm live tracking.
- Test history and alert functions.
- Complete the concealed permanent installation and recheck communication.
Tracking Privacy and Consent
Only install the tracker on an asset you own or are authorised to manage. Drivers and employees should be informed where required. Privacy, employment and tracking-law compliance remains the owner’s responsibility.
What the MT1 Does Not Do
The MT1 does not immobilise the vehicle, read diagnostic fault codes or contact emergency services.
It cannot guarantee theft recovery or continue transmitting indefinitely without power, mobile data, GPS reception and platform access.
